US-Led Coalition Against Daesh Carries Out 17 Airstrikes in Iraq, Syria

The US-led coalition against the Daesh conducted five strikes in Syria and 12 strikes in Iraq, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Islamic State terrorist group, also known as Daesh, conducted 17 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq on Thursday destroying the terrorists’ security headquarters, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted five strikes using attack and ground-attack aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] targets," the release stated on Friday. "Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted 12 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery and fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets."

The five coalition airstrikes near three Syrian cities, Ayn Isa, Dayr Az Zawr and Mara, destroyed multiple Daesh fighting positions and tactical units, along with a vehicle borne improvised explosive device, according to CENTCOM.

The US-led coalition also conducted a dozen airstrikes near eight Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Sinjar, Ramadi and Mosul. The strikes destroyed multiple Daesh tactical units, fighting positions and assembly areas, as well as two terrorists’ factories for vehicle borne improvised explosive devices.

The Daesh is a terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries. The infamous group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate on territories under its control.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq since summer 2014.
