WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition launched 20 airstrikes against Daesh (Islamic State) in Iraq and Syria, the US Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) announced in a statement on Thursday.
"Coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq," CJTF-OIR said. "In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three strikes using bomber and remotely piloted aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq."
Meanwhile in Iraq, coalition forces targeted Daesh sniper positions, assembly areas, weapons caches, fuel tankers, command and control nodes and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices in and around nine Iraqi cities including Mosul and Ramadi.
The US-led coalition of over 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014, however, without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
