MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US State Department has issued a statement warning its citizens against traveling to Lebanon following a string of suicide bombings in the country.
"U.S. citizens living and working in Lebanon should understand that they accept the risks of remaining in the country and should carefully consider those risks. U.S. citizens traveling or residing in Lebanon despite this Travel Warning should keep a low profile, assess their personal security, and vary times and routes for all required travel," the Friday statement said.
In early December several people were killed after a suicide bomber detonated himself in northern Lebanon. In November, twin blasts hit the south of the Lebanese capital Beirut. At least 43 people died and 239 were injured, according to the Red Cross. The Islamic State (IS or Daesh) jihadist group claimed responsibility for the attacks. The group is outlawed in several countries including Russia.
