A minor was arrested in Bahrain for attempting to smuggle in bomb-making materials from Iraq, police reported on Monday.

According to a Bahraini police statement, the young man was arrested during a routine security search at the border post on the causeway which links the Gulf island nation to Saudi Arabia, while carrying the materials in a suitcase.

The name or age wasn't revealed in the statement. The young man said he was told by his relative who lives in Iraq to take the suitcase to Bahrain.

The unnamed boy's relative in Iraq is wanted for terrorism-related charges in Bahrain.

During the last four years unrest has frothed in Bahrain following widespread anti-government protests led by the country’s Shiite majority against its ruling Sunni monarchy. Many police officers were killed by small bombs targeting during clashes.
