MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The emails sent by the Home Office officials showed that they requested access to a map created by GLA that identified and categorized people sleeping rough on the streets by nationality, The Observer newspaper, which belongs to Guardian Media Group, revealed on Saturday. The collected information allowed the Home Office to deport homeless people who came to the United Kingdom from the EU states and Eastern Europe.
In May 2016, the Home Office introduced a guidance enabling deportation on the grounds that people were sleeping on the streets, the newspaper noted.
The Home Office reportedly gained full access to the map for six months from September 2016. The relief organizations found this out just six months later and expressed their concerns on the issue.
However, during the six-month period, the number of EU nationals' detentions has witnessed an increase by 41 percent.
