"EU foreign affairs ministers will discuss the situation in Syria in light of recent developments on the ground. The Council is expected to adopt conclusions," the Council of the European Union said in a press release.
Two international meetings on Syrian settlement took place over the weekend, one in Swiss Lausanne on Saturday with another one in London on Sunday but to no avail.
On September 9, Russia and the United States reached an agreement for a peace process in Syria, where a civil war has been ongoing since 2011. A ceasefire stipulated by the deal entered into force on September 12, but quickly collapsed into violence. The Syrian army launched a major offensive on the rebel-held districts of Aleppo, blaming militants for numerous violations. The Syria government has been accused of hitting civilians with its airstrikes, while the country's military denied bombing civilian areas.
