MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, walkers reported smoke and flames on top of a peak, with social media circulating pictures of a plume of smoke rising above a mountain in the area.
Initial statements said six people involved in the crash landing were safe. Later, the UK Ministry of Defence said that four people on board the helicopter had all exited the vehicle before it caught fire.
"A Griffin training helicopter safely completed a precautionary landing in Snowdonia this afternoon following a technical issue. All four people on board exited safely, subsequently the aircraft caught fire. Emergency services are on the scene," a ministry spokesman said, as quoted by the North Welsh Daily Post newspaper.
A coastguard helicopter has reportedly arrived at the scene, as well as an air ambulance and police and fire rescue teams.
