BAKU (Sputnik) — Azerbaijan's security services are examining the Turkish media reports on possible upcoming terrorist attacks in the country by the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) militants, the spokesman of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan said Friday.
Earlier on Friday Haberturk newspaper reported that the Daesh militants are planning terrorist attacks in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Pictures of five Daesh militants allegedly plotting the attacks were sent to all Turkish security services, according to the newspaper. It added that all the militants were believed to be in Syria at the moment.
"To prevent possible threats to the security of Azerbaijan the MNS together with other law enforcement bodies of the republic carries out preventive measures," Arif Babayev said.
One of the suspects is a close friend of Nabil Fadil, who is responsible for January terrorist attack in Istanbul, which left 10 people dead, the newspaper said, adding that one of the militants has a US passport. Another one is a teenager and a brother of the Daesh member, who was killed in the summer of 2015, according to the newspaper.
The Daesh is a designated terrorist group that has captured large areas of land in Syria and Iraq, where it proclaimed a caliphate. The terror group is outlawed in Russia, the United States and in several other countries.
