MOSCOW (Sputnik) — More than 565,000 people have signed the petition after Trump proposed a temporary halt on Muslims entering the United States. After reaching 100,000 signatures, any petition can be discussed in the country’s parliament.
"The Government recognizes the strength of feeling against the remarks and will continue to speak out against comments which have the potential to divide our communities, regardless of who makes them," the government said in response to the petition.
Home Secretary Theresa May has the powers to exclude a non-European national from the country if she considers their presence in the UK to be "non-conducive to the public good," according to the statement.
Prime Minister David Cameron has previously said that he completely disagrees with Trump’s remarks.
