Cameron Chairs Emergency Meeting on Floods in North-West UK
LONDON (Sputnik) — The British government is going to allocate some 2.3 billion pounds ($3.4 billion) to restore infrastructures in North West England that have been recently damaged by severe floods, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Monday.

"We are going to spend £2.3bn on flood defences in this parliament but we will look at what's happened here and see what needs to be done," Cameron told Sky News.

Hundreds of people were forced to flee their homes due to an unprecedented flooding with the highest level ever recorded in some parts of northern Britain. Tens of thousands of homes were left without electricity because of heavy rain and strong wind.

Reportedly, some 30 flood warnings are still in place in England and Wales.
