PRAGUE (Sputnik) — Hungarian police on Wednesday beat several Slovak journalists during an incident involving refugees on the Serbia-Hungary border, Slovak media reported Thursday.

"On Tuesday, a law criminalizing [the provision of] assistance to refugees came into force in Hungary. Foreign journalists, including a reporter of Dennik N, were among its first victims," the Dennik N newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, Hungarian police beat Slovak journalist Timey Beck for assisting a refugee family in the clashes, and then transferred her to a cell in the city of Szeged, where she was subjected to an interrogation.

Hungarian police reportedly detained several other journalists during the clashes, including those who were reporting live from the scene.

On Wednesday, the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) accused Hungarian police of violating international regulations on free reporting by beating three crew members of the Serbian RTS TV channel on the Serbia-Hungary border.
