Migrants held at the Horgos-Roszke border crossing between Serbia and Hungary have resumed attacks on Hungarian police on Thursday, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

HORGOS (Sputnik) — The refugees threw sticks at the Hungarian police, urging to be allowed to cross into the country to travel to Germany. Serbian police have not as yet intervened.

Border clashes between migrants and police broke out Wednesday, injuring at least 30 police officers and 150 migrants. Dozens of migrants were arrested, after which Hungary requested Serbia’s assistance to control the crowds.

On Tuesday, Hungary sealed off a major crossing point at its Serbian border and introduced tighter border control regulations. To fortify the border protection, Budapest deployed around 9,000 soldiers and police officers to the area.

Hungary is one of several EU countries experiencing a rapidly escalating migrant crisis, as hundreds of thousands of people flee homelands in the Middle East, North and Sub-Saharan Africa seeking refuge in the European Union.

Over 190,000 migrants, most arriving from the Serbian side, have crossed the Hungarian border illegally this year, according to the country's interior ministry.
