PRAGUE (Sputnik) — NATO should also help EU member states with the creation of refugee camps, especially in countries where the refugee influx is the largest now, the deputy prime minister said.
He added that the European Union had taken no efficient practical measures to resolve the migrant crisis, and was only dealing with papers.
"I want to call on the NATO Secretary General [Jens Stoltenberg] to take action…. The Alliance should protect Turkey-[EU] border and the Mediterranean and help stoke the empty vessels of smugglers and to assist in other actions against these dangerous criminals and murderers, whose business threatens refugees and Europe, " Babis was quoted by the Ceske Noviny news portal as saying.
In recent months, Europe has been grappling with a major influx of migrants. The majority of them come from conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The migrants make their way to more prosperous EU countries, including Germany and Sweden, via various routes, including Italy, Greece, Turkey and Balkan states. Nearly 30,000 people are involved in organizing human trafficking operations, according to latest data from the European Police Office.
