MOSCOW, January 8 (Sputnik) — Access to the area adjacent to the Elysee Palace in Paris, the residence of the French president, has been restricted due to security concerns, French broadcaster RTL radio said Thursday.

According to RTL, all entrances to the city are currently under the supervision over the ongoing manhunt for two gunmen who carried out a deadly attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine's office on Wednesday.

Due to the attack, French authorities have upgraded the alert status for Ile-de-France region to the highest level.

On Wednesday morning, alleged Islamic extremists burst into the magazine's headquarters in 11th district of Paris and opened fire on those present.

Twelve people were shot dead by the suspected gunmen, including several renowned cartoonists and two police officers. At least 11 people, mostly editorial staff, were also injured.

According to media reports, the shooters managed to escape by car. A nationwide manhunt for them is underway.
