"It is quite impressive to see all the companies coming here and pledging for responsibility. Why are we so happy that companies and countries are pledging to do the right thing? The reason is that the price on carbon pollution is not set right. We need to push for a worldwide agreement on how to price the carbon tax correctly," Jensen said at the COP21 climate conference in Paris.
Jensen urged all businesspeople attending the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA) event to help "give a push" to politicians to create and implement the "right" carbon taxation policy and to "create the right conditions [for business] to continue doing the right thing."
The 21st UN Climate Change Conference, currently underway in Paris, aims to reach a comprehensive accord that would replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, dealing with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The global deal is expected to help manage climate change effects and put world economies on a path toward sustainable growth, with a focus on decarbonization.
The objective of the LPAA Focus on Business event is to find concrete solutions to ensure the low-carbon development of businesses. Such areas as carbon pricing, energy efficiency, modes of transportation, responsible policy engagement are under discussion.
