Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation expects from Bulgaria information on the timeline of compensation payment in the amount of 620 million euros ($696 million) for the damage caused by the termination of the joint project for the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), the corporation said Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In 2006, the Russian Atomstroyexport company, a subsidiary of Rosatom, won an international tender on constructing two units of the Belene NPP but the project was frozen in 2009 after the new government headed by Boyko Borissov had come to power.

"The Russian side insists on the need for early implementation of the decision of the arbitration tribunal and the repayment of debt by the Bulgarian side," Rosatom said in a statement.

According to the decision of the International Court of Arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce in Geneva, Bulgaria has to repay more than $700 million to the Russian company.
