Iran and Russia have signed a cooperation agreement to produce gas turbines and aircraft engines, Iranian Deputy Defense Minister Manouchehr Manteghi told Sputnik Persian in an interview.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iran is able to become a large market for Russian engines, he added, stressing that the Islamic Republic can contribute to the modernization of turboshaft engines production.

"We plan that we will carry out joint projects in the areas of design, production and promotion of platforms for a new generation engine for further economic exploitation," Manteghi said.

The agreement was signed during the Iranian delegation's visit to Russia, on the sidelines of the MAKS-2015 International Aviation and Space Salon.

MAKS-2015 took place in the Russian city of Zhukovsky in the Moscow Region between August 25 and August 30. More than 400,000 people visited the event. About 760 companies from 35 countries participated in the air and space show.
