Why is US Secretive About Trans-Pacific Partnership Deal?

Congressman Brad Sherman tells Sputnik radio host why he opposes the TPP deal and how has the US President become out of touch with common Americans.

The host of the BradCast show Brad Friedman talks to US Congressman Brad Sherman on his recent remarks that President Obama's support of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) suggests he is not in touch with 'the real world'.

The Sputnik radio host says that Congressman Sherman opposes the deal saying that the US President living in the White House for the past six years is out of touch with common Americans. Sherman says that the president should listen to his fellow Democrats who are opposing him on trade. “The President should trust us,” Sherman says.

Congressman Sherman talks about the secrecy around this bill saying that he cannot bring in economists, trade lawyers or any other experts to view this bill. “What we have is a one sided propaganda machine.”

“The fact is that there are two big things in this bill that affect me. The first is that it is the continuation of the worst trade policy in history.”

“Over the last 30 years we've gone from being the number one creditor nation to the number one debtor nation. The number one surplus nation, to the number one deficit nation in history.”

The Congressman further says that perhaps it is a coincidence, but just when the economy is getting to the point where one might see a few raises, “we have this opportunity to enter into this agreement which will assure wage stagnation for at least another decade."

Sherman criticizes the overall policy decisions that the US has made recently. According to him the relationship with other countries is lopsided.

Sherman goes on to explain other concerns about the agreement and how Americans can help stop the deal.
