Russian energy giant Gazprom will deliver gas to China via the so called eastern route on schedule, the company’s CEO Alexei Miller said.
"Works on the Chayanda field and the Power of Siberia have gained momentum. All Gazprom obligations in connection with gas deliveries to China will be fulfilled on time and to the full extent," Miller said, according to a news release published on Gazprom’s website.
In May, Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed a landmark 30-year agreement for gas deliveries. Russia is set to deliver 38 billion cubic meters of gas to China annually through the Power of Siberia natural gas pipeline, also known as the "Eastern Route", starting 2018.
A memorandum of understanding on a second gas deal, with planned deliveries of 30 billion cubic meters of gas to China through the proposed Altai gas pipeline, or the "western route", was signed in November.
