The US Embassy in Indonesia warns US citizens that they should avoid upcoming protests planned for November 4 due to the threat of violence or terror attacks.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US citizens in Jakarta and other major Indonesian cities should avoid upcoming protests planned for November 4 due to the threat of violence or terror attacks, the US Embassy said in a statement on Thursday.

"There exists the possibility that some extremists groups could take advantage of the November 4 protests to incite or carry out violence," the statement said.

The embassy explained that Indonesian organizations have called for large-scale protests in the capital Jakarta and other major cities on Friday afternoon.

The statement advised US citizens to avoid the protests and demonstration areas.

The Indonesian National Police and military will provide security for the events, but the statement noted that even peaceful demonstrations could turn confrontational.
