Thai officials said the country has never allowed the US to build any secret prisons on its territory.

MOSCOW, December 11 (Sputnik) — Thailand has never permitted the United States to construct detention facilities and conduct tortures on its territory, announced a senior Thai official, as cited by Reuters.

"We have never allowed the US to use our space for detention or torture and there have never been any requests to do so," Paradorn Pattanathabutr, a former National Security Council chief, told the news agency.

CIA Torture Report Sparks Global Reaction
The statement came after a recent US Senate report on torture revealed that the CIA used inhuman methods of abuse against detainees as a means of interrogation. According to the report, CIA officers also tortured detainees at so-called black sites, operated by the US government all over the world.

Numerous media reports had previously stated that such secret prisons existed in Afghanistan, Morocco, Iraq, Thailand and other countries. However, the Thai government has denied this information, claiming that there were no secret sites on the country’s territory.

The revelations were made public on Tuesday after a 525-page summary of a comprehensive 6,700-page report, produced by the US Senate Intelligence Committee. - Sputnik International

"There have never been cases of bringing in these sort of prisoners. This is something that has been talked about for many years and we have never conducted any illegal activities with the US," said the former chief of Thailand's National Intelligence Agency, Suwaphan Tanyuvardhanam, as cited by Reuters.

According to the US Senate report, the US government has been running a secret prison in Thailand called "Detention Site Green." The detention facility has allegedly been used for interrogation purposes since the early 2000s and the Thai government was reported to have allowed its establishment, according to the International Business Times.
