In the state of Jammu and Kashmir one hundred and seventy-five candidates are in the running for eighteen assembly seats.

In the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, which accounts for almost half of the India's mineral resources, polling is underway for twenty assembly seats. Security in the state has been increased due to Maoist rebel groups, active in the area.
