MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The bus was reportedly carrying over 50 passengers when it was attacked between Kutulo and Daba villages on Sunday, Saleh said, as cited by Al Jazeera.
"The attackers tried to wave the bus down but then sprayed it with bullets when the driver refused to stop," Saleh told the media.
At least three people were injured in the attack that happened close to the border with Somalia, the media reported, citing Saleh.
"It is not yet clear who is behind the assault, but I'm not ruling out that this was a case of banditry," the official added.
Most terrorist attacks in the country are conducted by the al-Shabaab Islamist group, an al-Qaeda affiliate, based in neighboring Somalia.
In November 2014, al-Shabaab militants killed 28 Kenyan non-Muslim bus passengers in Mandera, in what it said was revenge for Kenyan police raids on Mombasa mosques.
