Russian President Dmitry Medvedev urged businesses on Wednesday to allocate more money for environmental projects.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev urged businesses on Wednesday to allocate more money for environmental projects.

Speaking at a meeting with environmental groups at the Kremlin on Wednesday, Medvedev said the government was not responsible for "meting out money for everything."

"Entrepreneurs should solve such issues, and the government should create motives and push them - sometimes accurately, sometimes more roughly - to make those decisions," the president said.

Medvedev also urged more cooperation with environmental NGOs.

"Many people don't like you [environmental NGOs,] especially the authorities... but all over the world you are working to defend the interests of people who want to live in a green environment," he said.

Medvedev rebuked Natural Resources Minister Yury Trutnev for his poor track record, saying that none of his orders have been implemented over the past year.
