Hariri, who was the prime minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2004, was killed by a car bomb on 14 February 2005. Four members of Hezbollah were accused of his assassination, but three of them were later acquitted by the tribunal due to a lack of evidence.

Sputnik is live from Leidschendam, the Netherlands, where the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) pronounces its sentence on Salim Jamil Ayyash, who was previously found guilty in absentia for his role in the assassination of ex-Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in 2005.
