Earlier, federal judge Matthew Brann dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit that sought to discard mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania, describing the case as "strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations".

The Trump campaign on Sunday filed a notice of appeal over a the ruling of a federal judge that denied a Trump lawsuit seeking to overturn mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania.

"Notice is hereby given that Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., Lawrence Roberts, and David John Henry, Plaintiffs in the above-named case, hereby appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from the Order issued by the Honorable Matthew W. Brann dated November 21, 2020 (Dkt. No. 203) entering final judgment in favor of Defendants and against the Plaintiffs", the court document read.

Filing a notice of appeal is the first step to start the appeal process, announced by the Trump team earlier on Saturday.

The Trump campaign revealed that it would seek an "expedited appeal", shortly after Judge Matthew Brann dismissed the lawsuit requesting to discard millions of mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania that, according to Trump, "should not have been counted", claiming that the votes illegally gave Joe Biden the win.

In his ruling, Brann described Trump's case as "strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations", characterizing the incumbent US president's lawsuit as "Frankenstein's monster".

The Trump campaign also accused election officials in Pennsylvania of breaching state election laws by not letting GOP observers into the mail ballot counting locations. This lawsuit, however, was also dismissed, as the judge cited health concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Apart from Pennsylvania, the Trump campaign has filed unsuccessful lawsuits demanding to stop counting "illegal votes" in several other key battleground states, particularly Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and others.

Trump continues to refuse to concede to Joe Biden, who is projected by the US mainstream media as the winner of the presidential election.

The official results will be announced after the Electoral College casts its vote in December.
