The number of people infected with COVID-19 in the United States has reached 979,070, with over 55,560 people dying from the disease, the Johns Hopkins University count shows.

President Donald Trump and other members of the US coronavirus task force are holding a press briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country on Monday.

During the briefing, President Trump is expected to announce additional guidance on reopening the US amid the pandemic. Earlier in April, the Administration published federal guidelines inviting state governors to start reopening their economies as soon as they notice a 14-day decline in the number of new infections.
