The House Judiciary Committee released its report on the constitutional grounds to impeach Trump over alleged abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and obstruction of Congress on 7 December and is set to continue hearings next week. The Democrats launched the inquiry after a whistleblower complaint revealed that Trump may have abused his power.

The House Judiciary Committee on Monday is holding a hearing on the evidence for impeachment provided in the House Intelligence Committee hearings.

The House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees are set to hear presentations on the next steps in the impeachment process.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi earlier ordered the House Judiciary Committee and its Chair Jerrold Nadler to start drawing up articles of impeachment against Trump.

The Democratic Party launched an impeachment inquiry into Trump over his phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which he allegedly attempted to pressure Kiev to look into Biden and his son Hunter for corruption-linked misdeeds in exchange for military aid. The White House has consented to a Senate trial, but demanded that Biden and other live witnesses be part of it.

The Democratic head of the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee has rejected Republican lawmakers' request for eight witnesses to appear as part of the panel's impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

The requested witnesses fall "outside the parameters of the impeachment inquiry", Representative Jerrold Nadler noted in a letter to the ranking Republican on the committee, Representative Doug Collins, as they listened to evidence at a hearing on the inquiry.

“The evidence shows that Donald J. Trump, the president of the United States, has put himself before country, he has violated his most basic responsibilities to the people, he has broken his oath”, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said during his opening statement. “I will honour mine, if you would honour yours, then I would urge you to do your duty”.
