"I think that this is yet another escalation [of the situation around Russia] or an attempt to lobby the interests of some companies. In fact, all escalation in America eventually ends up with money," Sherin said.
The claims of NATO Lt. Gen. Jan Broeks are likely aimed at getting an order for some company, which lobbies logistical interests, the lawmaker added.

At the same time, Russian upper house lawmaker Oleg Morozov told Sputnik that the NATO official wanted to portray Russia as aggressor, who may start a real war in Europe any time, and thus spark fear in the Europeans, making them feel defenseless.
"In reality, the transportation of military equipment is not an issue of first priority and it is completely solvable. Almost all European countries of NATO, including those neighboring us, have NATO military equipment on their territory. To increase this potential in modern conditions is a matter of few days," he underlined.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that Russia has never planned to attack any NATO member state. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the alliance recognizes this but uses the pretext of alleged Russian aggression to deploy more equipment and battalions next to Russian borders.
