A scheduled vigil in the US city of Charlottesville, Virginia for Heather Heyer, who was killed in a car ramming attack at a White Supremacist rally, has been canceled due to a credible threat, organizers said in a press release.

CHARLOTTESVILLE (Sputnik) — The recent rally led to clashes between the demonstrators and counter-protesters, culminating in the car ramming attack that killed Heyer in addition to injuring more than 30 people.

"[Sunday] evening's candlelight vigil in remembrance of Heather Heyer… has been canceled," the release stated. "A credible threat from White Supremacists created a situation wherein we could no longer guarantee the safety of those who attended."

Heyer, 32, died after a driver plowed into a crowd during a clash between White Supremacists and counter protesters. In addition to Heyer, two Virginia state police officers died in a helicopter crash outside Charlottesville while they were monitoring the protests from above.

The "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville was organized by far-right nationalists on Saturday as a protest against the plans to remove a monument to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
