WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Boeing Company is currently assessing the likely consequences of a new US sanctions bill against Russia, a company representative told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"We are monitoring developments on the new legislation approved by the US House of Representatives and having discussions to determine what, if any, impact there may be to our ongoing businesses and partnerships in the region," the representative said.

On Tuesday, the House approved in a 419-3 vote a new version of the bill that would impose sweeping sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea. The bill would also limit the US president’s ability to lift the sanctions imposed on Russia.

"Boeing follows the US government’s lead in all of our dealings and complies with whatever US policies, laws and regulations the [government] puts in place," the company’s representative said.

The measure targets Russia's defense, intelligence, mining, shipping and railway industries, and restrict dealings with Russian banks and energy companies. The measure intended to limit the financing period for sanctioned Russian banks to 14 days, and for sanctioned oil and gas sector companies to 30 days.

The bill also presupposes the possibility of sanctions against persons who intend to invest more than $5 million per year or $1 million at a time in the construction of Russian export pipelines or provide projects with services, technology and information support.

Russia has stated that imposing sanctions is counterproductive and does not contribute to positively developing relations. Germany and Austria criticized the new possible sanctions and characterized them as a threat to the energy security of the European Union.

The bill has yet to be approved by the US Senate and signed by President Donald Trump to become law.
