Kerry 'Accepts' Russian Leadership Behind US Democratic National Committee Hack

Outgoing US Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that he accepts trhe judgement of the US intelligence community that the Democratic National Committee was hacke by Russians.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Outgoing US Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that he accepts the intelligence community’s assessment that the cyberattack of the Democratic National Committee’s computer systems was directed by Russian leaders.

"I'm not going to get into what I personally believe… I accept the judgement of the intelligence community that this went to the highest level," Kerry stated in a press conference.

 

Kerry said both he and President Barack Obama had raised the issue with Russian officials.

Earlier Thursday, US intelligence chiefs testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee about Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 election.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the committee that he stood behind an October assessment that Russia was responsible for the breach.

The unclassified report on the cyberattack is expected to be released next week.

Russia has repeatedly denied US allegations calling them absurd and intended to deflect the US public from revelations of corruption and other pressing domestic concerns.
