Jeff Sessions is principled, forthright, hardworking and has worked to improve the lives of all Americans while serving in the US Senate, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement on Friday that US Senator Jeff Sessions is the right person to serve as Attorney General in a Donald Trump administration.

"I strongly support the President-elect's intention to nominate Senator Jeff Sessions to be the next United States Attorney General," McConnell stated.

The statement also noted Sessions is principled, forthright, hardworking and has worked to improve the lives of all Americans while serving in the US Senate.

Views of US Attorney General Nominee Sessions Merit Close Scrutiny
McConnell added that he expects Sessions to receive fair and expeditious treatment from the US Senate, which includes a "timely up or down vote" as happened with President Barack Obama's first Attorney General nominee.

McConnell did not mention that it took longer than all but two other nominees for Attorney General before the Senate would confirm Loretta Lynch. She replaced Obama's first Attorney General Eric Holder in 2015.

Republicans agreed Lynch was qualified, but were upset because she defended Obama's executive actions on immigration. McConnell also delayed the vote on Lynch until the Senate agreed to vote on a human trafficking bill.
