Peasant, Greens Union Ahead in Lithuania's Vote Count With 25.86% of Votes

Lithuania's Peasant and Greens Union is leading in the country's Sunday parliamentary elections with 25.86 percent of votes, the country’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) said on Monday, after counting seven percent of ballots.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the CEC, the country's Social Democratic Party ranks second with 15.44 percent of votes followed by Homeland Union – Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) which scores some 15 percent.

"The CEC provided preliminary results after processing results from 48 constituencies and 891 polling stations," the CEC said in a statement.

The voter turnout reached 49.90 percent in the elections.

A total of 141 seats in the national unicameral parliament are contested by 12 parties, two electoral blocs and 26 independent candidates.

According to Lithuania’s legislation, 70 lawmakers are elected in a nationwide constituency under a proportional system, and 71 lawmakers in single mandate constituencies under a majoritarian voting system.
