India faces major damage in terms of developing its infrastructure and the collapse of local intelligence gathering in Kashmir due to ongoing unrest in the valley.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — India admits that infrastructure developments are adversely affected due to ongoing unrest while its crippled local intelligence makes India more vulnerable to militant attacks.

“The Border Road Organisation has suffered losses of more than three months work during the summer. Many vehicles and equipment have been damaged, which will directly affect the work efficiency. The most affected locations where delays have been seen are Tangdhar, Anantnag, Kupwara and Bandipur Sectors,” reads a statement released by India’s Ministry of Defense.

Laborers are major source of intelligence in these highly sensitive and militancy prone areas. Local officials have reported to the Ministry of Defense about the unavailability of laborers.

“Majority of the non-local labors from the valley have moved out of State for search of their daily livelihood due to continuous disturbance in the State.”

India Faces Public Pressure to Respond to Violence in Kashmir
This situation would not only make India prone to a rise in militant attacks but has also exposed India in its border connected to China. “Movement and shifting of the material to forward areas have also hampered the work in Ladakh region which will severely impinge on the completion of strategic Roads and spending of allotted funds,” admits the Ministry of Defense.

Meanwhile, problems have continued in the Valley for the 77th straight day. The Separatist leaders, who support freedom from India, have extended the protests until September 29. Major clashes have been reported in different parts of valley following Friday prayers. The current unrest erupted following the death of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8 this year.
