Prospects of the successful implementation of the Nord Stream-2 project are rather high, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told Sputnik on Thursday.

‎ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) – The Nord Stream 2 project aims to deliver 55 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas a year to the EU across the Baltic Sea to Germany bypassing Ukraine. The gas pipeline project plans to use the original Nord Stream pipeline for 86-percent of the route before branching off.

"Prospects are rather high… All decisions [on the project] can be made this year because this year we need to decide on investments," Novak said.

He added that there are always risks of postponing implementation of projects that are caused by factors, which are not linked to participants of projects’ implementation.

Earlier in the day, Russia's ambassador to the European Union said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker discussed relations in field of energy.
