US Air Defense Systems in S Korea to Trigger Arms Race - Beijing

Washington's possible deployment of air defense systems in South Korea may disrupt the strategic balance in the region and trigger an arms race, China's foreign minister said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The deployment of US air defense systems in South Korea will lead to an arms race in the region, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Friday.

“The United States' deployment of this system is beyond the actual need of security on the peninsula,” Wang said during a joint press conference in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“These actions will result in the breaking down of the strategic balance in the region and a new arms race will begin,” Wang added.
