WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition launched 29 airstrikes against Daesh terrorists embedded in Syria and Iraq targeting the group’s vehicles, fighting positions, and oil trucks, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a press release on Thursday.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," CENTCOM said. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 21 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using attack, fighter, ground-attack, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets."
Coalition forces in Iraq launched 21 airstrikes on Wednesday in nine Iraqi cities including Ramadi and Mosul. In Ramadi, the coalition hit a Daesh petroleum, oil and lubricant truck, front-end loader and a bed-down location while in Mosul the coalition targeted a dozen Daesh assembly areas and 25 bed-down locations.
In other Iraqi locations, the coalition hit over two dozen Daesh rocket rails, mortar positions, fuel trucks and tactical units, according to the Central Command.
News of the latest coalition airstrikes come as the US president’s special envoy for the anti-Daesh coalition Brett McGurk, arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to meet with senior Iraqi government and security officials to discuss the coalition and Iraqi security forces’ progress in fight against Daesh.
