UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said Thursday that the situation with human rights in Libya is not being covered properly by media outlets.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published a report, revealing widespread human rights violations during the past two years of the Libyan conflict.

"Despite the human rights situation in Libya, the country only sporadically makes the headlines. A multitude of actors – both State and non-State – are accused of very serious violations and abuses that may, in many cases, amount to war crimes," the UN human rights chief was quoted as saying in a press release following the report's release.

Is Paris Conducting Covert Anti-Daesh Operations in Libya?
Libya has been plagued by violence since 2011 when a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The instability has facilitated the emergence of numerous militant groups in the state, particularly Islamic State, which is outlawed in many countries, including the United States and Russia.
