Francois Hollande demanded that Berlin hand over all information concerning claims that its intelligence agency had spied on the French top diplomat.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French President Francois Hollande demanded on Thursday that Germany investigate claims that its intelligence agency BND eavesdropped on France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, German media reported.

“We demand to be handed over all information,” Hollande said on the sidelines of the EU-Africa summit in the Maltese capital Valletta, as quoted by Die Welt.

“Nothing like this should be practiced among friends.”

Hollande added that he knew for sure German Chancellor Angela Merkel would “do everything” to address France’s concerns.

German media reported Wednesday that BND agents had intercepted communications of French Foreign Minister Fabius since 2012. The intelligence agency also spied on Hansjorg Haber, a German diplomat and head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, in a possible breach of the country's constitution.

Other BND targets reportedly included the International Criminal Court, the World Health Organization, the UN children's advocacy body UNICEF, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US international broadcaster Voice of America.
