Washington and Beijing have looked into ways to improve cooperation in fight against terrorism during the bilateral counterterrorism dialogue in the Chinese capital, US State Department said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — State Department Coordinator for Counterterrorism Tina Kaidanow led the US delegation to the meeting that took place in Beijing on August 4.

“Both sides sought to identify practical ways to strengthen cooperation on counterterrorism,” the press release, issued on Thursday, said.

The dialogue’s participants, including China’s Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping, discussed ways to address the flow of foreign terrorist fighters, address terrorist funding, and increase information exchange on terrorist threats, the State Department said.

“The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to address the shared threat that terrorism poses to both countries and the international community,” the release read.

The United States and China agreed to meet “soon” to address the illicit flow of components used by terrorists in improvised explosive devices, according to the State Department.
