Global Energy Sector Carbon Dioxide Emissions Stall First Time in 40 Years
MOSCOW (Sputnik) According to the Dutch Urgenda Foundation filing the lawsuit, the action against the government is supported by 900 plaintiffs seeking to make authorities take decisive steps to reduce emissions.

The activists will push the court to require the Dutch government to reduce emissions by 25-40 percent below the 1990 level by 2020, as stipulated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Urgenda, which supports the transition to a more sustainable society, asks the court to declare that the Dutch government is acting unlawfully by not "contributing its proportional share" to prevent global warming.

The foundation also asks the court to declare that global warming is a violation of global fundamental human rights.

On April 14, more than 200 plaintiffs are expected to be present at the court hearing, including professors, entrepreneurs and journalists.
