Blue Cross Insurance Co Targeted in 'Sophisticated' Hack, Millions Affected

As many as 11 million members and prospective members of Premera Blue Cross and its associated brands are said to be affected by the online attack, which targeted the company’s systems and databases.

The multi-state health insurance company was targeted in January, at the same time as the Anthem health insurance breach. Personal information from users like Social Security numbers and bank account information was taken.

In late February, the FBI said it was close to identifying the hackers, at the same time Premera warned it was “processing” the Anthem data to determine if its customers were affected.
