Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union will go on strike Saturday over the sacking of an Underground employee with diabetes.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — London Underground employees will go on a strike Saturday night to protest over the sacking of a driver who allegedly failed two breath alcohol tests.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union will rally from 21:30 GMT on Saturday to 03:59 GMT on Sunday.

In October, an Underground employee Alec McGuigan was dismissed after failing the breath alcohol test for the second time.

The RMT argues that the driver was not drunk as the test results were highly likely to be affected by the fact that McGuigan has diabetes. The union stresses that McGuigan had a 29-years unblemished record.

London Underground officials stated they had zero tolerance toward alcohol and drugs and refused to review their decision.

This is the second protest action the RMT stages to support McGuigan. On December 1, 2014 the union went on strike for 24 hours over the same matter.
