MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The ceasefire between Kiev forces and independence supporters of Donbas, which took effect Sunday midnight, is holding in the most part of the Luhansk Region, but shelling continued in some areas, the region’s Kiev-appointed governor said Sunday.

The ceasefire has been established after midnight (February 14, 22:00 GMT) at the most hot spots at the territory controlled by Ukraine, Hennadiy Moskal said in a statement on his official website.

The governor stressed that the ceasefire was not achieved completely. According to him, the shelling killed two civilians over night.

The warring sides in Ukraine agreed on a truce following the talks in Minsk featuring the leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany in Russia, which ended Thursday. Under the deal, Kiev and independence militias are to exchange all prisoners and establish a buffer zone in the conflict area.

Despite a similar agreement signed in last September, clashes in eastern Ukraine continued and intensified in the first weeks of 2015.
