The film received a nomination in the category "Best Film Not in the English Language in 2015," alongside Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski's "Ida," Indian director Ritesh Batra's "The Lunchbox," Belgian directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne's "Two Days, One Night" and British director Stephen Daldry's "Trash."

"Leviathan" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in May 2014, where it won in the "Best Screenplay" category.
