GoPro, a well-known American manufacturer of high-definition wearable personal cameras, is set to launch the production of consumer drones and kick off sales late next year.

MOSCOW, November 26 (Sputnik) – GoPro, an American corporation that develops, manufactures and markets high-definition personal cameras, popular with surfers and other sportsmen, is set to expand its business, Wall Street Journal reports on Wednesday.

It will now develop its own line of consumer drones. The multi-rotor helicopters will carry high-definition cameras likely resembling those currently sold by GoPro, such as the GoPro Hero series.

The price tag will range between $500 and $1,000. Sales are set to kick off late next year.

The entry by a big consumer-electronics brand into the drone market, says the report, signals how mainstream and lucrative the industry has become in just a few years.

The aggressive price range could immediately shake up the market.

Some existing drones already support GoPro cameras, so it now looks as if the company aims at becoming an all-in-one solution for aerial photography.
