UNESCO put Lena Pillars nature park in eastern Siberia on its World Heritage List, a representative of the global body said on Monday.

The decision was reached at UNESCO’s session ongoing in St. Petersburg, the representative told RIA Novosti.

The move will be formalized at the end of the session, which is set to wrap on Friday, the official said.

The park, which has been pending UNESCO recognition since 2006, is located on Lena River in the Republic of Sakha. It consists of a long stretch of peculiarly shaped limestone “pillars” up to 300 meters high along the banks of Lena, one of the three great Siberian rivers.

After the addition of Lena Pillars, UNESCO’s World Heritage list comprises 962 sites, including 188 natural ones. Twenty-five items on the general list are located in Russia.
