The Venezuelan film Brother has been awarded the grand prize at the 32nd Moscow International Film Festival.

Director Marcel Rasqin was awarded the prize at the festival award ceremony on Saturday.

Brother, Rasqin's feature debut, tells the story of two young football players in a Venezuelan slum.

There were a total of 17 films competing in the main section of the festival. The festival's program director, Russian film expert Kirll Razlogov, said the films could be divided into two camps: films from former Socialist states and Latin American films.

The prize for best director was awarded to Polish Jan Kidawa-Blonski for his film Little Rose.
