MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Sudan expects an expansion of the range of agricultural products exported to Russia within the near future, State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Atta Mannan Bakhit told Sputnik.

"In the near future, we expect to expand the cooperation in the agricultural sphere," Bakhit said, adding that Sudan, which started to export agricultural goods to Russia two months ago, hoped to sell lemons, onions and potatoes.

The official pointed out that metal mining and geological exploration were the main areas of bilateral cooperation.

Bakhit went on to note that during his current visit to Moscow, he would take part in the annual intergovernmental consultations, scheduled for August 3-5.

"As usual, we are discussing with our Russian colleagues what is happening at the regional and international levels. These talks are also a preparation for the session of our intergovernmental commission, which considers a wide range of issues," he said, adding that the countries agreed to hold consultations twice a year.

On Thursday, Bakhit met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bodganov. The parties discussed bilateral trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as a number of regional issues such as conflicts in Darfur and South Sudan.
